Chelsea Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical development company
that acquires and develops innovative products for the treatment
of a variety of human diseases.
Chelsea is pursing an orphan
drug strategy for the development
ofNorthera (droxidopa),
an orally active synthetic precursor of norepinephrine, for the
treatment of neurogenic orthostatic hypotension. Currently approved
and marketed in Japan by Dainippon
Sumitomo Pharma Co., Ltd., Northera has accumulated over
15 years of proven safety and efficacy, generating annual revenue
of approximately $50 million in Japan
In addition to its autoimmune pipeline, the Company is also developing a library of metabolically
inert antifolate compounds engineered to have potent
anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activity to treat a range of
immunological disorders, including two clinical stage product candidates: CH-1504 and CH-4051. Preclinical and clinical data suggests that Chelsea's antifolate candidates may have superior safety and tolerability, as well as increased potency versus methotrexate (MTX) for RA and may have further
applications for psoriasis,IBDand certain cancers.
Chelsea's antifolate program is complemented by its I-3D
portfolio of therapeutics targeting immune-mediated inflammatory
disorders and transplantation.
Founded in 2004 around its library of unique antifolate technology,
Chelsea has since raised over $35 million in additional capital,
transitioned into a public company and further expanded its product
development portfolio with early and late stage products candidates
that leverage the company’s development expertise and accelerate
the company’s drug commercialization efforts.
